Journal 42: Memorial in the Pines: The Forgotten Bomber of 1943
High above and hidden in the folds of the forest, lies one of the valley’s most somber secrets. In 1943, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-24 bomber lifted off from Clovis, New Mexico, on a round-trip training exercise to Pueblo, Colorado, and never returned. Although the wreckage still lingers, the forest has become both gravesite and memorial, a place where the sacrifice of eight young airmen is remembered with reverence on this Memorial Day weekend.
