We invite you to be part of preserving Pinehaven’s story. By taking just a few minutes to complete a short online survey you can share the history of your cabin, how it was built, who has cherished it, and the memories it holds. Your story will become part of the Cabin in the Pines blog, ensuring that Pinehaven’s legacy is remembered through the voices of those who call it home.
Your Memories Are Our Legacy
Imagine someone reading about your cabin 50 years from now and the first snowfall you enjoyed, the family traditions around the fireplace, or the wildlife that wandered past your window. These are the moments that make Pinehaven more than just a collection of cabins. They are the heartbeat of our community and we don’t want them to be forgotten.
Why Your Story Matters
Every cabin in Pinehaven has a story about how it was built, who cherished it, and the memories it holds. By gathering these stories in one place, we can preserve the larger history of Pinehaven and the Cuchara Valley, not just through maps and deeds, but through lived experiences.
How to Participate
We’re inviting cabin owners to share their cabin’s history by completing a short online survey (15–20 minutes). With your responses, we’ll create a 2,000-word micro-history that blends the 500-year history of this land with the unique legacy of your cabin. You’ll have the option to have your cabin history written in one of two ways: either in a documentary style, focused on factual research and historical accuracy, or in a storytelling style, written as a narrative that brings the history to life through vivid description and narrative flow.
Community Benefits
Your participation benefits Pinehaven in two important ways:
- Preserve our history: Future generations will know Pinehaven not just as a place on a map, but as a community with stories worth remembering.
- Support our firefighters: For every completed survey, we’ll donate $50 to the La Veta Fire Protection District Auxiliary. This dedicated group supports local fire and EMS teams by serving meals during emergencies, raising funds for equipment, and helping with Firewise projects that directly benefit Pinehaven.
See a Sample Mico-History
One Pinehaven cabin owner filled out the survey and, within an hour, received a beautifully written history of his cabin. His response? "That is most impressive!" Now, he has both a Word and PDF version that is complete with a picture and ready to preserve and share for generations to come.Want to know what your cabin’s story might look like? You can view a completed micro-history here.
Take the Next Step
We hope to complete the first round of micro-histories soon, so please take a few minutes today to share your story. Together, we’ll preserve Pinehaven’s legacy for generations to come.
With gratitude,
Gene and Rhonda Roncone
